Privacy Policy for JotBird

Last updated: December 9, 2025

JotBird (“we,” “our,” or “us”) provides a simple Markdown editor and publishing tool. Your privacy matters to us. We collect as little data as possible and avoid invasive tracking or unnecessary storage.

This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. What We Collect

We design JotBird to minimize data collection. We only collect:

1.1. Information you choose to publish

When you click Publish, we store:

  • The rendered HTML of your Markdown
  • Any images you included (uploaded or pasted)
  • A timestamp
  • A randomly generated URL slug

We do not store your original Markdown unless you publish. Published pages auto-expire and are deleted after 30 days, unless you manually republish them.

1.2. Usage analytics (Plausible & Cloudflare)

We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first, cookie-free analytics platform, to understand aggregate traffic.

Plausible collects only anonymous, non-personal data, including:

  • Page URLs and referrers
  • Browser type and screen size
  • Country (approximate)
  • No IP addresses (they are anonymized)
  • No cookies
  • No cross-site tracking

You can read more at: https://plausible.io/data-policy

We also use Cloudflare's built-in, cookie-free analytics to understand high-level performance and traffic patterns (for example, page views and request counts by country). These metrics are aggregated and do not include advertising identifiers or cross-site tracking.

1.3. Server logs

Because we host behind Cloudflare, Cloudflare automatically logs:

  • IP address
  • Request URL
  • Basic browser metadata
  • Firewall/security events

We use these logs only for security, debugging, and abuse prevention. We do not combine log data with analytics and do not use it to identify you.

1.4. App storage

The JotBird editor stores your content:

  • In your browser’s local storage
  • On your device only
  • Not on our servers unless you publish

If you clear your browser data or switch devices, locally stored content may not persist.

2. What We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect or store:

  • Account information (we have no accounts)
  • Cookies or tracking pixels
  • Advertising identifiers
  • IP addresses linked to user profiles
  • Keystrokes or drafts stored in the editor
  • Personal profile or demographic data

We also do not sell or share data with advertisers or data brokers.

3. How We Use the Data We Collect

We use the limited data we collect to:

  • Provide the publishing feature
  • Maintain and protect the Service
  • Monitor service health and performance
  • Understand broad usage patterns (anonymous analytics)

We do not use collected data to:

  • Market to you
  • Personalize ads
  • Build profiles
  • Track you across websites

4. How Published Content Works

When you publish:

  • A unique public URL is generated
  • Anyone with the link can view the published page
  • You may delete or update the page by republishing
  • Pages auto-expire after 30 days

We reserve the right to remove published pages that:

  • Violate copyright
  • Contain abusive or illegal material
  • Create security issues

5. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third-party providers:

Cloudflare

For hosting, caching, and security. Cloudflare may process basic request metadata.

Privacy: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/

Plausible Analytics

For anonymous traffic analytics.

Privacy: https://plausible.io/data-policy

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook, or any ad-tracking services.

6. Data Retention

  • Published pages: deleted after 30 days
  • Server logs: retained by Cloudflare for security (typically ≤ 30 days)
  • Local drafts: stored on your device until you delete them

7. Children’s Privacy

JotBird is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from children. Because we do not collect identifying data, we cannot identify children who use the service.

8. Your Rights

Because we intentionally collect very little and store no personal profiles, these rights typically do not apply. But you may always contact us if you want published content removed immediately, have a privacy concern, or want more detail on our data practices.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above.
