Terms of Service
Terms of Service for JotBird
Last updated: February 2026
Welcome to JotBird LLC (“we,” “our,” or “us”). By using jotbird.com, jotbird.com/app, or any part of the JotBird service (“Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
1. Description of the Service
JotBird is a browser-based Markdown editor and publishing tool that allows you to:
- Write Markdown locally in your browser
- Preview rendered output
- Publish content to a shareable web page
You may use JotBird with or without creating an account.
Anonymous use does not require sign-up. Creating a free account enables additional features, such as syncing published content across devices and extended link expiration (90 days). A paid Pro subscription ($29/year) provides permanent links that never expire.
2. Your Content
2.1 Local drafts
Draft content you write in the editor is stored locally in your browser using local storage.
- We do not store, transmit, or access drafts that you have not published
- If you clear your browser data or switch devices without an account, drafts may not persist
You are responsible for backing up any content you wish to keep.
2.2 Published content (anonymous use)
If you publish without an account:
- The rendered HTML version of your content is stored on our servers
- It is accessible to anyone with the link
- Published URLs expire after 30 days—you can create a new URL by republishing the document
- You may update or delete the page by republishing while it is active
2.3 Published content (free account)
If you create a free account and publish content:
- Published documents are associated with your account
- Content may be accessed across devices when logged in
- Published URLs expire after 90 days—you can renew the same URL by republishing the document
- You may publish an unlimited number of documents
2.4 Published content (Pro account)
If you have an active Pro subscription:
- Published URLs never expire and remain accessible permanently
- Existing documents published before upgrading are migrated to permanent storage
- If your subscription lapses, existing Pro links remain permanent, but new publishes revert to 90-day expiration until you resubscribe
You remain solely responsible for all content you publish.
3. Acceptable Use
You may not use JotBird to publish, host, or distribute content that:
- Violates any applicable law
- Contains sexual content involving minors
- Includes threats, harassment, or hate speech
- Contains malware or attempts to exploit others
- Infringes intellectual property rights
- Doxxes, impersonates, or invades the privacy of others
- Is intended to spam, phish, or scam
- Could reasonably cause harm to others or the Service
We aim to be hands-off, but we reserve the right to intervene when necessary.
4. Content Removal and Enforcement
We may remove published content or restrict access without notice if:
- It violates these Terms or the Acceptable Use section
- We receive a valid DMCA notice
- We receive a lawful request from authorities
- It poses a security or operational risk
- It involves abusive or automated publishing behavior
We do not proactively monitor content. Review occurs only when content is flagged, reported, or legally required.
5. Intellectual Property
You retain full ownership of all content you create.
By publishing content on JotBird, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host and display the content solely for the purpose of making it available via your published URL.
We do not claim ownership of your drafts or unpublished content.
6. Accounts
Creating an account is optional.
If you create an account:
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your login credentials
- You are responsible for all activity under your account
- You may delete your account at any time
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or abuse the Service.
When you delete your account, all associated documents, images, and subscription data are permanently deleted. If you have an active Pro subscription, it is canceled at the time of account deletion.
7. Pro Subscriptions and Billing
JotBird Pro is a paid subscription that provides permanent published links and may include additional features over time.
7.1 Pricing and payment
- Pro is billed at $29/year (USD), charged annually
- Payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details
- Prices may change with notice. Existing subscribers will be notified before any price change takes effect on their next renewal
7.2 Cancellation and refunds
- You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Manage Subscription option in your account menu
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period—you retain Pro features until then
- You may request a full refund within 30 days of purchase by contacting support@jotbird.com. After 30 days, we do not offer prorated refunds for partial billing periods
- After cancellation, existing Pro links remain permanent. New publishes revert to 90-day expiration
7.3 Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails, Stripe will retry the charge over approximately 30 days. During this time, your Pro features remain active. If payment is not resolved after all retries, your subscription will be canceled. Existing Pro links remain permanent, but new publishes will revert to 90-day expiration.
8. No Warranty
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.”
We make no guarantees that JotBird will be:
- Uninterrupted
- Error-free
- Secure
- Compatible with your device or browser
Use of the Service is at your own risk.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for lost drafts, lost data, or deleted content
- We are not responsible for damage to your device
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Our total liability for any paid subscription shall not exceed the amount you paid in the 12 months preceding the claim
Because drafts are stored locally by default, we cannot recover lost drafts.
10. Changes to the Service
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time.
Major changes will be announced on the website or within the app when practical.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms occasionally. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above.
Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
