Terms of Service for JotBird
Last updated: December 9, 2025
Welcome to JotBird (“we,” “our,” or “us”). By using jotbird.com, jotbird.com/app, or any part of our Service (“Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service.
Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Description of the Service
JotBird is a simple, browser-based Markdown editor that allows you to:
- Write Markdown locally in your browser
- Preview rendered output
- Optionally publish your document to a shareable URL
We do not offer user accounts, long-term storage, or social networking features.
2. Your Content
2.1. Local drafts
Any draft content you write in the editor is stored on your device only using local storage. We do not store or access your drafts.
If you clear your browser storage or switch devices, your drafts may not persist.
2.2. Published content
If you choose to publish a document:
- The rendered HTML version is stored on our servers
- It becomes accessible to anyone with the link
- The content auto-expires after 30 days
- You may delete it sooner by contacting us
You are solely responsible for all content you publish.
3. Acceptable Use
You may not use JotBird to publish, host, or distribute content that:
- Violates any law
- Contains pornography involving minors
- Includes threats, harassment, or hate speech
- Contains malware or attempts to exploit others
- Infringes intellectual property rights
- Doxxes, impersonates, or invades the privacy of others
- Is intended to spam, phish, or scam
- Could reasonably cause harm to others
We reserve the right to remove published content at any time if we believe it violates these rules or poses a security, legal, or ethical risk to the Service or others.
We strive to be hands-off, but we will intervene when necessary.
4. Content Removal
We may remove content without notice if:
- It violates the Acceptable Use section
- We receive a valid DMCA notice
- We receive a lawful government request
- It creates technical risk to our infrastructure
- It is excessively large or abusive (e.g., automated publishing)
We may also block publishing from abusive IP addresses or automated systems.
We do not review content proactively; we review only when flagged or legally required.
5. Intellectual Property
You retain full ownership of the content you create and publish.
By publishing, you grant us a non-exclusive license to host and display your content solely for the purpose of making it available via your published URL.
We do not claim rights to your drafts or unpublished content.
6. No Warranty
JotBird is provided “as is” and “as available.” We make no promises that the Service will be:
- Uninterrupted
- Error-free
- Secure
- Compatible with your device
Use JotBird at your own risk.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for lost drafts, lost data, or lost content
- We are not responsible for damage to your device
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
Because your drafts stay on your device, we cannot restore them if they are lost.
8. Changes to the Service
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time. Major changes will be announced on the website.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms occasionally. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above.
By continuing to use JotBird, you agree to the updated Terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
